Geramra Sotah, says, "When the spies were sent to Eretz Yisroel,-Hashem made a plague for the Ca'nanim , that all their high officers were dying. Funerals, and crying everywhere- very chaotic. The spies took what HaShem did (good), and made it look like it was bad. HaShem did them a favor, by distracting them". The Steipler Gaon says "People only see what they want". "They left with the same intention they came back with". That is what it says in the Haftarah, and the Parsha. The difference is, that when it was in the Haftarah it was quitely- and was successful. Look in the Parsha was loud, and was unsuccessful! This shows the importance of being modest, and non-arrogant. Also, we see from what the they said "They came, and they came back"- showing that they came back with the same intent, as when they left. Hopefully, we will look deeper into things, and not be arrogant.
